The Surface Design Show (SDS) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) have announced a new strategic partnership ahead of the 2026 edition of the event. The collaboration reinforces SDS’s standing as a key date in the calendar for professionals across the architecture and design sectors.
Taking place from 3–5 February 2026 at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, Surface Design Show 2026 is set to be the premier event of the year for architects, interior designers and the wider design community.
As part of this new partnership, the Surface Design Show will act as Host Partner for two of RIBA’s flagship annual events:
RIBA Future Leaders – Tuesday 3 February 2026
This programme supports the professional development of emerging architects, equipping the next generation with the essential skills and insights needed to succeed in practice and influence the future of the built environment.
RIBA AI in Practice Summit – Wednesday 4 February 2026
Building on the success of its inaugural event, the 2026 summit will return with a focus on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in architecture. The summit will feature globally recognised speakers and leading industry experts exploring the latest technologies, applications and trends shaping architectural practice.
The co-location of these events within the Surface Design Show will create a vibrant and connected environment throughout the exhibition. RIBA delegates will move seamlessly between sessions and the show floor, contributing to a dynamic exchange of ideas and networking opportunities. Attendees will also be introduced to an inspiring showcase of cutting-edge materials, finishes and surface innovations that exemplify creative design thinking and craftsmanship.
Philip Lowther, Director of Commercial Programmes & Delivery at RIBA, commented:
“We’re delighted to be partnering with SDS for the 2026 Show. This exhibition will provide a vital platform for collaboration, idea exchange and professional growth. From our Future Leaders programme, which empowers early-career architects to lead sustainable practices, to the AI in Practice Summit, which will explore the latest tools and trends shaping the future of design, it promises to be an unmissable few days for professionals across the sector.”
The partnership reflects SDS’s commitment to creating a platform where the design community can engage with the most innovative and inspiring materials for the built environment. Under the 2026 theme of ‘Material Evolution’, the show invites a re-examination of innovation, encouraging a transition from waste to worth. The collaboration with RIBA complements this vision by championing circular systems, material transparency and inventive reuse.
David Todd, Event Director at Surface Design Show, added:
“We are thrilled to partner with RIBA for this year’s edition of the Surface Design Show. This collaboration allows us to reach new audiences and engage with important ideas shaping the future of architecture and design. I look forward to the conversations and insights this partnership will inspire.”
